Melville House is Adopting Penguins

Let me first say that I am a great admirer of the indie publisher Melville House. Some of you who followed me here from my old blog may remember this post about their fabulously creative industry event: The Moby Awards for 2009’s Best (and Worst!) Book Trailers. This publishing house is just wildly creative and really utilizes new media and digital marketing opportunities in fun, inventive ways that make me grin. Like their newest initiative, Adopt-a-Penguin!

Publisher Dennis Johnson has promised to adopt a penguin in the name of any bookstore that sells more than 25 copies of Viktor Zolotaryov’s newly released title, Death and the Penguin. He’s promoting the campaign using Twitter (#adoptapenguin) and plugging it on publishing blogs.

What a cool way to move some books! This is a publishing house that’s clearly an impassioned advocate for its authors, and that’s why it’s this Writer’s Wednesday feature. Now, let’s help adopt some penguins, guys! Or at least spend the next half hour browsing cute YouTube vids like this one.
