Steplings by C. W. Smith Is Out This Month!

This Writer’s Wednesday I’m spotlighting C. W. Smith, my very own former creative writing professor/mentor from SMU.

He has a new novel out this month titled Steplings.  I actually had the privilege of reading it and giving C. W. feedback on with while it was still in manuscript form two years ago!  It’s very cool to see it coming out for sale this month, and to have had the opportunity to witness a mentor’s manuscript develop from draft form into an actual book.

From what I remember, it’s a story about the literal lengths a teenage boy in love will go to get the girl (think The Graduate scene “ELAINE! ELAINE! ELAINE!”), and also about that same teenage boy learning what it means to take responsiblity for someone other than himself for the first time in his life. That someone is his new stepsister, a spunky and instantly loveable character who puts a wrench in his go-get-the-girl plans when she tricks him into accidentally kidnapping her; to avoid any spoilers, I’ll just say that that’s when things gets complicated.

Watch the book trailer here. If you’re reading this and you’re local to the Dallas/ Forth Worth area, you should go to his Facebook page for a list of book signings and events. Ain’t no party like a book store party, am I right guys?

Happy Writer Wednesday all!
